These Japanese yen notes and coins were collected by my grandfather when he was in the Navy stationed there after WWII; he would later return to Japan with the Foreign Service and died in Kobe in 1968. The date on the middle note is listed as Showa 18 which would places it in 1944, the 18th year of Emperor Hirohito’s reign. Apparently, it was sufficiently common after WWII for American soldiers to bring home small denomination yen as souvenirs that today these old notes have no material value.
