This was part of a trove of old pharmaceutical bottles I found in 2005 at a rural marché aux puces in the Isère department in southeastern France. The label lists the pharmacist as R. Dubreuil and the address as 115, Avenue Lacassagne in Lyon; today, this area has been entirely rebuilt with large and dispiriting public housing estates. Tincture of cacao is now most often blended with a drinking alcohol such as vodka, the line between medicine and entertainment always having been fairly porous.
